About 818 MAHJ

More than a Game. A Community.

818 MAHJ was born from a simple but powerful belief: that Mahjong is so much more than a game. It’s a reason to gather. A reason to laugh. A reason to put down your phone, sit across from someone, and actually connect.

We’re a premiere LA-based Mahjong community bringing together players across the 818. From Calabasas, Westlake Village, Malibu, Lake Sherwood, Agoura Hills, Woodland Hills and beyond. We create fun, elevated, social, experiences that feel as good as the company you keep.

What We Do: Whether you’ve never touched a tile or you’ve been playing for years, there’s a seat at our table for you.

We offer: Lessons — learn the game from scratch or sharpen your skills in a welcoming, relaxed setting.

Open Play — drop in, meet new people, and enjoy a great game.

Leagues — join a recurring community of players who show up, week after week.

Private Events— birthdays, bachelorettes, girls’ nights, corporate events, and party book events, we bring the tiles to you.

Retreats — our most elevated experience, bringing the community together for unforgettable Mahjong weekends.

Why 818 MAHJ? Because the best moments happen around a table. We created 818 MAHJ for the women of LA who wanted something that was entirely theirs. A place to be social, to be playful, to be competitive, and to belong, all at the same time! No experience required. No judgment. Just great Mahjong and even better company.

Our Promise: Every 818 MAHJ experience is designed to feel fun, welcoming, and a little bit special. We take care of everything so all you have to do is show up, draw your tiles, and enjoy.

More than a Game, A Community.

Hi, I'm Michal

I started 818 MAHJ because of what happens around the table.

What began as a few friends and a set of tiles quickly became something I didn’t expect: women arriving as strangers and leaving with plans for next week. No one comes for the tiles, exactly. They come for the two hours that are entirely their own — a chance to connect, laugh, learn something new, and be part of something that feels both social and meaningful.

I’m a Certified American Mahjong Instructor trained by Mahjong Molly, a mom of two boys, and a firm believer that you’re never too busy for a standing date with your people. Through 818 MAHJ, I host lessons, leagues, open play, private events, and community gatherings throughout Los Angeles, with a focus on creating experiences that feel welcoming, elevated, and genuinely fun.

For me, Mahjong has always been about more than the game itself. It’s about ritual, friendship, tradition, and the kind of connection that happens when people put their phones down and sit across from one another for a few hours.

Whether you’ve never touched a tile or you’ve been playing for decades, there’s a seat for you here.

In-Store + Corporate Mahjong Experiences

818 MAHJ partners with boutiques, brands, hotels, clubs and businesses to create memorable Mahjong experiences designed to bring people together.

For retail partners, an in-store Mahjong event is a fun and engaging way to introduce customers to the game while creating energy around your space, building community and encouraging meaningful foot traffic. We provide the Mahjong instruction, tablescape elements and game materials, and work closely with you to create an experience that feels seamless and aligned with your brand.

For corporate groups, event planners and networking organizations, 818 MAHJ creates customized Mahjong experiences for client appreciation events, team gatherings, retreats, brand activations and private social events. From beginner lessons to guided play and larger-format Mahjong events, we can tailor the experience to your group size, setting and skill level.

We handle the Mahjong so you can focus on your guests.

Some of our partners have included: Caruso, The Mindry, Sharon Segal, Lumber + Linen, and More!

Play. Connect. Gather.
A fresh, social way to bring people together — around the tiles.
